  • 1 cup Guinness stout
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare the baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the stout and oil, whisking to blend.
  3. Add the granulated sugar and eggs, mixing well.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 50 minutes.
  7. Allow the cake to cool before preparing the frosting.
  8. In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  9. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until creamy.
  10. Frost the cooled cake with the cream cheese frosting.
