  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 blend for juiciness
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 4 each brioche or potato burger buns for better flavor and texture
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • fresh lettuce to taste
  • sliced tomatoes to taste
  • pickles to taste
  • sliced onions to taste
  • 2 tbsp ketchup as desired
  • 1 tbsp mustard as desired

Method
 

Cooking Instructions
  1. Preheat your grill or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat, adding a splash of oil if using a skillet.
  2. Form the ground beef into four loose balls (about 4 ounces each) without compacting them too tightly.
  3. Season each ball with salt and pepper.
  4. Once hot, place the beef balls on the grill/skillet and smash them down firmly with a spatula to create flat patties.
  5. Cook for about 2 minutes until browned; add cheese on top and cover to melt while cooking for an additional minute.
  6. Toast the burger buns cut-side down until golden brown.
  7. Assemble your burgers by adding toppings and sauces as desired.
