  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.75 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp cherry extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Buttercream frosting for layering

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time.
  4. Mix in whole milk and cherry extract until just combined. Gradually add the dry ingredients until smooth.
  5. Gently fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let cake layers cool completely before frosting with buttercream.
